Winter-peg
Winnipeg is sometimes also known as Winter-peg because of its cold winters. Unfortunately in the winter we wake up to 30 below; sometimes worse; sometimes better. Winter can be hard with all the snow. At times we get tons of snow and times we get just a touch of snow. Either way we can have all that snow and cold but still have fun.
In the winter we might get a brutal snow fall but that’s when some people find out how kind some people are, a neighbour or friend can come along and help shovel or even do it. Myself – I love it, I get outside and get some exercise. My dogs even come out run in the snow and play around.
The things we have in Winter-peg are amazing such as every year in the winter we have the Winter Wonderland light show at the exhibition grounds. At The Forks there’re events almost every day. Some people even carve up some ice sculptures. All around there’s something going on. We just got to keep your eyes and ears open.
My favourite part of winter is definitely the sledding, skating, snowboarding and throwing snowballs. There’s lots of fun to be had with the snow! I love wrestling in the snow and sledding. With all that being said I hope winter in Winnipeg is a little less depressing. Remember to dress warm and have fun!

“Winterpeg” sure has its down points in the winter because of the cold and because of the all the snow which I don’t appreciate that much. But, if I dress properly, I often enjoy the freshness. I love sledding and skating as well!
Indeed, I sure like winter in Winnipeg better than its summer. That season is often brutal with all the humidity! I can’t stand summer days in Manitoba when its hotter then about 23 C.

It was December when my parents and I came to Winnipeg, so it was freezing cold. I really didn’t really complain about the cold at first because I thought I was brave enough to beat it. However, it did not last long enough. I just wanted to sleep the whole day. I did not even want to get up from the bed. The cold made me very, very sleepy. But I did not have a choice but to get up and go to different places. Needless to say, I still love Winnipeg and its freezing cold winters, no matter what.

I love Mariedenze’s comment. Winnipeg in the winter definitely makes you wanna’ hibernate a lot. Well at least it makes me want to. Winter has its up and downs. I love the first snow fall, but hate when I can’t open my door after a snowstorm. I love the snow.. just not the cold weather it brings to the city.

Although it does get very cold in winter in Winnipeg, I don”t mind as long as we get the snow to go with it. As long as there is snow for my kids to play in, we are all happy. This winter has been the worst one for me so far. Nothing worse then walking down a brown muddy sidewalk, but still having to freeze. It makes for a very ugly winter.

They might call us winter peg, but I love this time of year in the city. There is so much going on all over. The forks has lots to offer families for fun. The skating circle for kids is a great place to teach them, and the river route is fun for people of all ages. The huts they set up along the path are great for getting out of the cold and having a nice hot chocolate. The sledding is usually good at the floodway and Festival du Voyageur is always a great event to go see. There is nothing better than family fun in good old winter peg!

Winnipeg is a fun place to be in the winter, except for when it’s wet and cold. I can stand the cold if I’m not being snowed on and frozen. The city often pushes all the snow off the Red River at the Forks and makes it a fun place to skate. The traffic and accidents in the winter are a downside because Winnipeggers don’t seem to understand that the weather is different and they can’t drive the same in the winter.

I came from a very hot country, but I like winter. What I like about winter is in winter I get a good sleep and I get time for my family. One thing I worry about is driving in snow, but I do it slowly.

I have to agree. I love winter too, but that could change. It is my first winter with a car and a driving licence. Hope I don’t get stuck in the snow. Mostly I like winter because it’s always really hot and I find the cold breeze refreshing. If you see a guy out there in a t shirt and shorts and it’s snowing – that’s me. I can’t snowboard. I tried skiing but couldn’t take one step without my face being planted in the snow. But I love the scenery and how comfortable I feel.

Since I’ve been growing up from a young child I was always taught to dress up to stay warm and I also love winter even when it’s minus 30. But what I hate is when it’s windy. When it’s windy it makes it feel colder than it really is.
