Is it Safe?

That’s a question to which I would like an answer. As a young woman I don’t feel safe walking around down town on my own. Reading a story about a young women at the age of 16 who was sexually assaulted at gun point made me more worried about walking alone. The man took her into a small forest in a small town in Manitoba. He then hit her with his gun and brutally raped the young teen. When I hear about things like this happening I don’t feel so safe.  Even though there are cops on duty I’ve still been jumped two times walking alone. To this day I still have to walk around alone which makes me worried about who I may run into. The only things I can do to prevent this is to always let someone know where I’m going and how long I may be. This just doesn’t seem like it’s enough because even after the fact I told someone where I was going I still ran into problems. I believe that the cops need to keep their eyes more open for things like this. That’s what they’re there for; to help and protect us. No one wants their loved ones or themselves to be hurt.

Cosmetic Surgery

I strongly disapprove of  people having facial surgery and obese people having lipo-suction. It must be painful and costly.  People who have facial surgery  or lipo-suction may have low self-esteem, lack confidence, and may be insecure. It is better to wear make-up because it adds color to the face. Exercise also makes  people feel and look better instead of having scars to the face and body. Facial surgery makes people believe that it would change their appearance, making them  think they are very beautiful. I believe this is psychological. People must feel good about themselves and must have confidence inside and out.

Gotta’ Smoke?

This is in response to you who live here in Winnipeg and visitors. Be glad and proud that you can afford to smoke. Say no to those who bum for a cigarette so you don’t kill them with a life threatening inhalent. Don’t feel guilty for saying no, when really you’re actually saving their lives by saying no. And you, the less fortunate ones, don’t bum for a cigarette. Don’t do anything stupid to get one either. I am saying this because, this one person demanded I give him a cigarette when he saw me smoking one. I told him “no” and he didn’t accept my answer, so he violently attacked me. So I hit him back 3 times in self-defense and this is how it happened; me hitting him, him hitting the side walk, and the ambulance hitting 80mph down the street to pick him up. So find a job so you can support your own habits.

Gangs

Gang  activity is at an all time high in Winnipeg and gangs are becoming more troublesome as the years go by. Fifteen years ago, when I read the newspaper, every couple of weeks I would read about gang activity. Today I read about gang activity just about every day. Gangs today are violent and organized. Crimes with fire arms are more frequent today. Every day we hear about someone getting shot or being shot at. Street drugs are how the gangs survive. They use children to deal their drugs for them because when they get caught, they get a slap on the wrist or nothing will happen to them because of the Young Offenders Act. Gang activity in Winnipeg is at its all-time worst. Something has to be done about it.

Clean Streets

Why doesn’t the City of Winnipeg hire some more people to help clean up Winnipeg’s streets? If you walk down any street, you can see a lot of paper and garbage everywhere.  There are a lot of people that could really use the money and the work, This would get a lot of people away from EI. It really would be nice to see a cleaner Winnipeg, and a healthy workplace.

Weed is Harmless? Think Again

Glorifying the smoking of weed is shown in pictures of the 4/20 gathering at the Legislative Building as covered by the Winnipeg Free Press. Why aren’t there pictures of people that have been smoking for days? Weed is a drug plain and simple and it is a drug that screws and slows the mind so that you can’t react as you normally would do if you were straight. Take it from someone who is a ex weed smoker. The things I’m doing now I didn’t even think when I smoked weed.  Most days I couldn’t remember things from the day or week before. All I thought about was how I needed my weed to function; to wake up in the mornings, to clean my house, to live a life everyday. What does this show our kids? —that it is OK to do drugs? —that you need drugs to live a fulfilling life? Today I realize that I don’t need drugs to have a good life. I am going to school and I am a wonderful role model to my kids unlike what I was when I smoked weed.

Butt Out

As a non-smoker and a parent I think the students of W A E C that smoke in front of the school alongside the Y M C A daycare playground should stop smoking in this area. It’s a proven fact that second hand smoke causes more harm than the smoke itself to the smoker. I know it’s outdoors and off the school property, but if we have twenty to twenty-five people out there smoking three to four times a day it all adds up. So, as adults with young children in our families, everyone should stop smoking in this area. So maybe instead of smoking on that side of the building everyone could walk ten seconds in another direction.

Wading Pools

This is about the wading pools around my area and around the city. These pools do not stay open long enough during the summer months. Back in the day I would not have cared as much, but now I have a kid and it gets hotter every year. I don’t think it’s going to get any better. City of Winnipeg administrators, would you think about keeping wading pools open a little longer during the time when the weather is hot? I think that a lot of people would appreciate it. Thank you from one of your many readers.

Pressure to Learn

I’m writing in regards to the water fountains in our school.  The main floor water fountain does not put out enough water pressure to get the water to my lips.  The water pressure in the men’s washroom is more along the lines of what the main floors water fountain should look like.  I drink a lot of water and would rather not think about the amount of lips that have rested on the faucet.  I have never had mono, nor do I want to find out what it’s like.  So, if you could just turn up the pressure on that fountain, I could make it to my next class without that gruelling thought about where my lips have been.  Thank you.

Gangs and their effect on our city

I sincerely  hope that Sam Katz opens his eyes and sees just how bad the gangs are effecting our city. Winnipeg is getting a bad rap for it’s high crime rate and  living in the Central area I have no choice but to have witnessed some unacceptable behaviors.

Gangs contribute to drugs, violence and prostitution. The city focuses on the crime when it happens instead of trying to avoid or lessen the chance of a crime involving in things such as gangs. It seems as though the gangs are controlling the city instead of the city officials controlling the gangs. Illegal activities will always occur but helping keep youths active may in the end help teens become well behaved citizens which may help slow down the gang involvement.
