New York City Trip!

During Spring Break (Mar. 26 to 30) a group of twenty two St. John’s students participated in an arts tour in New York City.  A few rode to the airport in a limo and all met at the James Richardson airport for an early morning flight.

While in New York, they stayed at a hotel in walking distance from Times square.  The tour included: the viewing tower of the Empire State building, the World Trade Center, China Town, Central Park, a ferry ride to the Statue of Liberty and the Immigration Museum on Ellis Island as well as the Guggenheim museum of modern art, the Metropolitan Museum of art, and the Lincoln Center with three separate halls for Opera, Ballet, and the Symphony.  Students participated in two workshops with career actors discovering how to follow a dream.  Students dined out every lunch and dinner and were treated to two live Broadway Shows.  Sister Act was a spectacular comedy.  The Phantom of the Opera was a fantastical mystery.

We had a fantastic trip!

Here are a few of our photos!

Grade 8 Boys Basketball City Champion Finalists

The Grade 8 Boys Basketball team had a terrific season this year!  They improved all year, and really came together in the playoffs, where they defeated Elmwood, Sacre Couer and Hugh John before being defeated by the #1 ranked team Stanley Knowles by only 8 points.  The boys committed themselves to the sport and to each other, and St. John’s is very proud of them.  Thanks to all the friends, family and staff who came out to support the boys all season and who undoubtedly electrified the gym during the final game with their intense and emotional cheering.

Portraits of Honour Mural

On September 28, 2011 St. John’s students from grade 7 and grade 8 were invited to attend the Winnipeg unveiling of a special Canadian tour of the Portraits of Honour mural.

This mural honours the soldiers who have fallen during their tour of duty in Afghanistan.  This was a day to pay respect to the soldiers and their families who came to view the mural.
