I do not own a cellphone… I grew up in a time without T.V., computers, DVD’s, digital anything.
I am having a difficult time wondering why so many of you are “attached” to your cellphones, not to mention video games and MP3 players.
Please expain to me why having a cellphone is so important to you?

I believe we become slaves of this device! It iseems to me that this instrument becomes more important than person in front of you.
i think for me, its mostly habit of having it on me, its not even that i need it, because i barely ever use it. but just knowing its there makes me feel better.
i think before the cellphone is important for us..being student i said its a good thing to have cellphone.for me, its help to communicate to our friends and easiest way to know if something happen like emrgency..but now i saw the students more active in cellphone than the book or lesson & notes..now,i agree that they aviod the cellphone in the school..most of the time, i see many students instead of doing their work they texting, hiding to call other friends…for the students like me…

Well for me my cellphone is my connection to my family when there not there, a safty divice when im walking down the street and a handy tool to keep me on schedual and in track of most of my daily rutines, sure theres the fun stuff like texting and what not but really its not that bad i appriciate what the world has created and given me even if it annoys a few teachers
I do not own one, but many people I know own one. I asked them why and they said for emergencys, like the last lock down when their parents were going to pick them up for lunch, they couldn`t be relessed and the line up for the office was crazy!!! So I think thats why some people are attached and the fact they have personal stuff on it.
I think tha is so true we could be talking to someone on the phone who could only be a couple inches away but we are becoming very lazy that we don`t even bother to put effort in anything anymore
I think this is so true! a person could be talking to someone on the phone that isn`t even a few feet away. It doesn`t make any sence at all, that is why I don`t own one
I think some people think its important because the phone in the office has the craziest line up some days!!! its like you have to wait an hour just to check if your parents are home to let you in! and also remember our schools last lock down? what if someone need to let there gardian know that they couldn`t come home for lunch, or cancel a ride? agian the issues with the office phone being a incredible line up. But thats only my advice.
cell phones are a very handy device no or days.
considering our living conditions.
a cell phone IS A SAFETY DEVICE in my opinion. to keep in contact with family and as well friends i can not express howmany times i have been walking down the streete and been scared, and picked up the phone and called a friend or family member to talk to me while walking. they also allow the ability for your family toknow where u are. payphones are 50 cents to use and they are kind of scary to use during the night time. also cellphones are cheaper then most homephones and you can bring them anywhere with you.
I do agree that people should notbe texting during a lesson in class but ifyou want to text while doing an assignment so be it your just fooling yourself am i right? if you pick up your phone during a class assignemtn then your losing out on your own education no one else is.
I don’t understand what the big thing teachers have against cell phones. what have they done to hurt you!?
I agree that everyone is majorly attatched to their cell phones. I check mine at least every 15 minutes. But I think phones are an awesome advance in technology that keeps all of us organized. It’s how I know when I have a presentation or an assignment due. And yes, it’s also a tie to my family (including my mom, who just learned how to text, God bless her) and my friends. I personally think the phone rule should be modified. I think we should have the right to text all we want. We’re paying for it, after all. But I think this should be as long as it’s not disruptive to those who are working on an assignment, IE keeping your phone on silent, and no phone calls. A simple text is not disruptive at all, and besides, since when do YOU care about the students finishing assignments? I had the impression that “getting after students about assignments wasn’t in the job description”. (Direct quote from a teacher.)
And do you see students complying to the cell phone rule?
No.
I do agree very much with your thought, but the only issue we would have as a student body is that JUST ONE PERSON would screw it up majorly for everyone else. And as for teachers rampaging about cell phones maybe we should have someone to look up too, right? I see teachers walking around with cell phones and talking all the time. So i will do the same.
Cell phones are very helpful like the previous comment did state, keeping us in touch with our family and friends. I know that the normal responce from most people would be well your friends are at school so why do you need to be texting them, and yes I agree with that but family is always WAY MORE IMPORTANT and I’m sure alot of people would agree with me. Am I right? If something were to happen in my family and I were to not have any notice of it, I’m not sure about you but I would be rather upset if something bad were to happen. I do believe cell phones can be a big distraction, not only to students but for teachers as well. Having someone press buttons all the time would get annoying, while teaching a lesson. We are in high school though and as EVERYSINGLE teacher says we are preparing for University, and the usage of cell phones in a manor that is even more formal then this high school allows cell phones. So University here we come. But I do believe we all have better things to do then blog and complain about no cell phones, right? Come on guys 2 more months!
But seriously you shouldn`t need to use them in class, you cdan use them at lunch or after school. you really don`t need it that badly
I don`t understand the thing that teachers can have and use their cellpone`s but as a student you cannot. I saw one of my teachers (whom I will not name) Was talking on his through Oh canada and through the annoucments!!! How rude but we get in trouble when we even dare to do something like that! I just don`t understand
Cell phones also ruin your spelling and grammar (see example above). Also I don’t believe said person should be mentioning dissagreeing with not texting during class. But cell phones are important to myself because it is a big safety factor, during and outside of school. During school if you’re in a place where there are no teachers etc. around and say a fight breaks out, are you supposed to walk (not run) around the halls attempting to quietly grab someones attention (seeing as we can’t scream) when we can just call the school and let them know their assistance is needed. Outside school, only the obvious reasons.
This is so true. I see some of my teachers useing their cell phone in class. I belive that if students are not aloud to use their cell phone in class student’s should not be able to either. Even if their teachers , it should be equal. Yet again some teacher’s dont care if students have their cell phones and ipod’s out after they have finshed teaching a lesson. Teacher’s should not be hypocrite’s and put their cell phones away too.
I also dont see why we cant use our cell phones on our OWN time on our spares, at lunch and before school. It’s really stupid.
I know! I mean after school they still ask you to leave the building, its not like a crime or anything (its handy when you need a ride when its cold or pouring outside) So using in in the free hours should be exceptable, well in my own words its a good idea
i can’t live without my cellphone! TEXTING IS AWESOME!
How many students actually follow the rules, i’d rather go home for the day then give my cell phone to the teacher anyways.
I’m sorry, but my cell phone has become a part of me. It makes me feel safe, and when I don’t have it, it’s all i think about.
When i was in grade 9 i was told to give up my phone so i did, but what my teacher did was a total invasion of my privacy.
She opened my phone, went through my txts and then replied to them!
I will never give up my phone agian.
Oi!
nothing wrong with being attached to our cellphones!
Its really stupid that schools has a no cellphone policy. We PAY for the cellphones, the plans and everything. We should be aloud to use them, same goes for MP3 players.
teachers say things like ” If you skip class, its your choice. If you don’t wanna learn, thats your choice.”
Well, if we want to listen to our music and not pay attention to the teacher speaksing then thats our choice. We’d be the ones paying for it in the end, not the teachers. they are payed to teach, they can suffer with our music and cellphones.
