The students in room 308 work collaboratively to create a summary and reflection of the second chapter in our novel Silverwing.

Using SMARTideas they first decided what the important parts of the chapter were.  Once we had finished finding the main ideas the students then had to decide how they were going show what they had learned.  With the choice of several options the class voted on creating a poster.  The students all chose different parts of the poster and quickly started!  In only a few days they had created a great poster which shows the main parts of the story, our favourite parts, the characters and a reflection.  Some students wrote while other created the background.  Everyone worked very well together.

I did the picture of Silverwing it is not as easy as it looks. It’s actually quite hard. When I was doing this I thought to myself ….. I want my picture to stand out, I want it to catch everybody’s eye. I don’t want it to blend in. I want everyone to see my part! I also thought about if the auther came to our school and saw my work I would want him to be proud of the title of his book! (and mommy and daddy and all family and friends!)

What a great reflection. It very interesting that you thought about how the author would feel. I think your picture does stand out and I know you put a lot of work into it.

Wow. I really enjoyed looking at the poster the class made. I noticed the wonderful detail in the collaborative poster. How cool to create a poster together. Everyone must have been getting along and sharing their ideas well. The poster really did a fine job at recapping the main ideas in the story. The observations made by the class were interesting and told me the students were paying close attention to the chapters they have read. Using SMART Ideas to sort out the ideas was a great idea. Keep up the good work.

I found an interesting webpage located at…

    http://www.silverwing.ca/covergallery.htm

It shows cover pictures of Silverwing published in other countries. When I saw this page I immediately began wondering why the pictures were all different? I thought, how do the pictures differ or how are the same? I wonder why they are all drawn in different ways in different countries. That’s a real puzzler!

Doing the reflection actually is kind of tricky. Because you have to think of what it makes you feel like. You really have to think about what your writing about.

Reflections are very tricky and take a lot of practice. It is something to always keep working on.
