    Q1 there are 41 black ants and 27 red ants in the pie. There are 68 ants in one pie. 60 + 60 = 120 and 8 + 8 = 16. 120 + 16 = 136. There are 136 ants in two pies.

    Q2 There are three countries that start with u. Upper volta has 789. Uraguay has 99. Ugada has 25. 99 + 25 = 124. 124 + 89 = 213. 213 + 700 = 913.There are 913 noodles in countries that start with u.

I figured out how to get the anwser by doing 27×2=54.

  3. RV007 on September 13th, 2008 6:39 pm

    He need’s 82 black ants + 56 red ants =136 ants.

  4. rvo21 on September 14th, 2008 10:00 am

    #1- 136
    #2- 913

  5. RV019 on September 14th, 2008 5:22 pm

Chef Crayzee needs 134 ants to make two batches of pie a la bug. (41+27)x2=68×2=134.

  6. RVOO4 on September 14th, 2008 6:16 pm

For chef crayzee’s question I added up 27+27=54 (for the red ants.) and 41+41=81 (for the black ants) so I used the number line and got the answer of 136.

  7. RV017 on September 14th, 2008 7:57 pm

Chef Crayzee needs 136 ants to make pie a la
    bug.

    41+27=68
    68+68=136

  8. RVOO4 on September 14th, 2008 8:18 pm

For Natashas problem I used the number line I did 12 10’s 4 1’s. so it was 789+99+25=913

  9. RV012 on September 15th, 2008 5:21 pm

    1. Chef Crayzee needs 136 ants to make 2 batches of pie a la bug.
    80+40+7+1=136.

    2. Natasha Noodlenova has 913 noodles from countries that start with .

This is how I know :
    789+99+25=913

  10. RV015 on September 15th, 2008 5:29 pm

    1) 41+27=68.

    2) 789+99+25=913.

  11. rv018 on September 15th, 2008 7:14 pm

I did 41+41=82 and 27+27=54. So then I added up 82+54=136. So the answer is 136.

  32. ehammond on September 19th, 2008 10:09 am

The strategies you used for question 1 are great. How did you do the addition for question 2?

  33. ehammond on September 19th, 2008 10:10 am

Don’t forget in question 1 there are 2 types of ants needed in the recipe. You did great work with your addition, what strategies did you use to help?

  34. ehammond on September 19th, 2008 10:11 am

Well done! I liked your explanation as to how you found the answer. Did you do anything to help you with the addition?

  40. ehammond on September 19th, 2008 10:14 am

Great work! Was it hard to add 3 numbers at one time?

  41. ehammond on September 19th, 2008 10:15 am

Bravo! When you grouped all the ants what math strategies were you using? Can you show us?

  42. ehammond on September 19th, 2008 10:16 am

Good work, thanks for showing the answers and taking the challenge of doing both questions. Don’t forget in question 1 there are 2 types of ants needed for the recipe.

  43. ehammond on September 19th, 2008 10:17 am

I think that is a great way of doing it. Did you use a strategy to help you add all three numbers together? Bravo!

    Question 1
    40+40=80+2=82 black ants
    20+20=40+7=47+7=54 red ants
    80+50=130+6=136

a total of 136 ants are needed for the recipe.

    Question 2
    Upper Volta=789
    Uraguay=99
    Uganda=25

    789+1=790+20+4=814+100=914-1=913
There are 913 noodles from countries that start with U

  48. RVO22 on September 24th, 2008 8:41 am

I added the first two numbers in my head. I wrote the answer down and then added the other number.

  49. rv008 on September 24th, 2008 5:08 pm

there were 789 upper volta and 25 from uganda and 99 from uraugay and I added them together and got a total of 913.That’s how I got the answer.

  50. ehammond on September 25th, 2008 10:13 am

How did you find your answer? Don’t forget there are 2 types of ants needed. I like how you wrote a sentence for your answer.

  51. RVOO5 on September 25th, 2008 5:01 pm

    fist I did 20+20=40 then Idid 7+7=14 then I did 40+14=54. Then I did 40+40=80 then i did 1+1=2 then I did 80+2=82.the last thing I did was 80+50=130 then i did 2+4=6 . then I did 130+6=136 and that is how i got the answer.

  52. RV012 on September 25th, 2008 7:31 pm

This is how I figured out the answer :

I made a 100 with the 99 and 1 one from the 25 & then I took another 1 from the 25 to make 789 change to 790. Then I added the 23 to 890 which adds up to 913.

  53. RVO13 on September 26th, 2008 8:00 am

    41+41=82
    27+27=54
    82+54=136
He need 136 ants for two batches.
