March Madness Fast Approaching
Mid-February is not only highlighted by Valentine’s Day, and the Louis Riel long weekend, but reminds us that basketball play-offs are just around the corner. Basketball players and fans will be very busy over the next few weeks. Here is what is happening in the Winnipeg School Division:

Spartans vs. Crusaders Tomorrow

Tomorrow night, the St. Paul’s 2 Crusaders will make their way to the Billy Mosienko Arena to take on the Sisler Spartans, starting at 4:00 pm. The Spartans are now 4-6 and are looking to rebound after two straight losses, while the Cru hopes to continue their 8-game win streak. Good luck to the Spartans & make sure to come out and cheer on your home team!
Clippers vs. Pipers, Eagles vs. Bulldogs Tonight
In men’s hockey tonight, the Kelvin Clippers will travel to the MTS Iceplex to take on the John Taylor Pipers, starting at 4:00 pm. The Clippers hold an even 5-5 record, while the Pipers have recently slid down the rankings to sit at 6-4.
In the Coca-Cola division, the Churchill Bulldogs, who are coming off a high-scoring 9-4 win against St. Norbert, are ready to take on the SJR 2 Eagles at the Dutton Memorial Arena starting at 6:35 pm. Good luck to both teams!
Sisler Spartans Tip Off Basketball Season
Congratulations to the Sisler Spartans varsity boys basketball team, who have already competed in their first tournament of the season this past weekend. The Spartans competed in the Kildonan East tournament, and took home 2nd place, falling in the tournmanet finals to the host team 85-72. Despite a loss in the finals, a great start to what will surely be a fantastic season for this Sisler Spartans team. Congratulations boys! The Spartans will kick off the regular season next Wednesday, December 12th, as they travel to St. Paul’s to take on the Crusaders.

Brandon Sun Basketball Tournament Kicks Off Today
Good luck to all our varsity boys teams travelling to Brandon today for the Brandon Sun Spartan Invitational Basketball Tournament! This early season tournament is one of the largest in the province with 32 teams from Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario, and East Saskatchewan will be vying for the champion title. WHSFL 2012 Awards
Congratulations to all players, coaches & volunteers for an outstanding 2012 WHSFL season! Last night, the WHSFL hosted its annual awards banquet at Canad Inns Polo Park to recognize players and coaches who have contributed greatly to the success of their teams, competitiveness of the league, and their own personal growth. Congratulations to all those nominated for awards and those accepting the honour of the awards presented to them. Clippers vs. Crusaders Tonight
The Kelvin Clippers boy’s hockey team is back in action tonight, as they host the St. Paul’s 1 Crusaders tonight at the River Heights CC, starting at 4:15 pm. The Clippers now sit with a 5-5 record after defeating the Stonewall Rams 2-1 last week. Good luck boys!
Boy’s Hockey Update
Friday night featured two games for WSD teams, with the Sisler Spartans taking on the Sanford Sabres and Churchill travelling to Oakbank to face Springfield Collegiate. Both teams fell short against tough division opponents, with Sisler bieng ousted 7-0 by Sanford and Churchill being dropped 9-3 by Springfield. Tomorrow night, Churchill will have to bounce back as they host the Warren Wildcats at the Sam Southern Arena, starting at 3:30 pm. On Wednesday, the 5-5 Kelvin Clippers will face tough competition against St. Paul’s 1 at home at the River Heights CC. Good luck to all teams this week!
