Busy in February!
Room 7 was very busy in the month of February! The students had the chance to go to the Western Canadian Aviation Museum with rooms 5 and 22. At the aviation museum the students got split into two groups. The first group went on a tour of the museum to see all of the old planes. The second group went to a room to learn all about postion, and then they got the opportunity to make their own cars out of lego to see if they could get the car to move from one postion on the ramp to another position. After each group was finished they switched places and got to see the do the other activtiy.
In February the students also had the chance to make dog orgami bookmarks for I Love to Read Month! The students did a great job following the directions and are still using the bookmarks with the books in their books bags.
2D Shapes & 3D Objects in Room 7
For the past couple of months the students in Room 7 have been learning about 2D shapes and 3D objects. The class started off with learning about different 2D shapes and how they all have attributes. The class was split into 4 groups and each group was assigned 1 shape (either circle, triangle, square or rectangle). The students had to look through various store flyers and try to find items that matched their shape. Check out the finished products…
The students than had practice sorting 2D shapes according to varying attribute rules. For example shapes on one side if they have 4 sides and shapes on the other side if they have less than 4 sides. The class was once again split into 4 groups and as a group they had to create an attribute rule, cut and color a lot of shapes and paste their shapes on their sheet according to their rule. They did a great job!
The students in Room 7 than created Wanted! shape posters. They had to create a person or animal made completely out of shapes and describe the “Wanted” person, ie. he has a square head and a rectangle body. The class did such a good job on their posters!
To finish off our 2D shapes and 3D objects unit the students had the opportunity to create 3D objects using marshmallows and toothpicks! First the students had to try and make a 3D object, once they had made one or two objects they had to fill out their worksheet about their 3D object. Finally their was a whole class group competition to see which table group could create the tallest building out of the marshmallows and toothpicks! The class had so much fun doing this!
Book Buddies!
To start off the month of February (‘I love to read’ month) Room 7 and Room 2pm started their book buddy reading! Room 2 got to go on an adventure down to Room 7. Once they got there, Room 7 had their book bags ready, they found their partners and the students in Room 7 read to their buddy! Both classes did a great job being readers and listeners! Take a look at all of the kids in action…
Week 3 – L.T.T.A. in Room 7!
Room 7 had so much fun this week when Lise came back for our 3rd L.T.T.A. session! First the student did some stretching to make sure their bodies were warmed up and ready to go…
Next the students practiced acting like bears. The students practiced being big bears and little bears…
Then the students got to practice the steps to a dance that they are learning. They started off as bears that were swimming, than they saw a seal, ate the seal up, and than went for a nap…
Finally the students ended the LTTA session with a fun game called freeze dance! Students had to do their best dancing until the music was shut off and then they had to freeze. If they moved than they were out of the game… the last two left standing won!
and our winners were….. Kelly and Rayleen! Congratulations!
Room 7 is super exctied for next week for our final LTTA session!!
L.T.T.A. in Room 7
The students in room 7 have had the opportunity to spend some time with a professional dancer to learn about “Characteristics of Living Things” through dance and movement. The first week the students practiced moving around the room as if they were different animals (ie. fish, bird, snake, etc). They also learned about the importance of stretching before dancing. Check out these pictures of the kids in the second week. They had tons of fun!

Daily 5 in Room 7
To start off the new year Room 7 started new Daily 5 groups this week! Check out
our pictures of us in action!

The students had an odd number in their Read to Someone group so they decided to create a group of 3!

These students were practicing their letter recognition for the Word Work part of the daily 5! Looks like fun!
The students will be adding in the last daily 5 area … Work on Writing…. every Friday
when they practice stretching out words to create their letters to their families for
their weekly T.W.A.S. folders.
Morning Message in November
Every morning when the students come in to room 7 we read our morning message
together. Sometimes the students help Ms. Thomas fix mistakes that she makes in her
message; things like upper and lower case letters, making sure I use the right
punctuation, and making sure I use finger spaces. One morning the students came
in to the class and discovered that Ms. Thomas had forgot to write the morning
message! The students decicded to be great helpers and help Ms. Thomas write a
morning message. Check out the pictures to see what they wrote… aren’t they great
at printing?!
The students also have been practicing counting to 20 by 1′s and 2′s. For fun the
class played a game where they each got a card and when Ms. Thomas said go they
had to see how fast the whole class could get in line. The first time they counted by
1′s. The second time they counted by 2′s starting at 2, and the third time they
counted by 2′s starting at 1. The students had a lot of fun with this. Next time we
will be trying counting by 5′s and 10′s!
All About Me in Room 7
The students in Room 7 have been busy in the month of September learning ‘All About Me’. This started with a puzzle activity where each student got a piece of a large puzzle to decorate with a picture of something they did over the summer. After all the students finished drawing their picture we put the puzzle back together. This showed the students that although everyone had a different picture they all fit together still. Just like how in our class all of our students are different but we all fit together as a class. Room 7 also started recording in an “All About Me’ book. In this books students got to draw a picture of themselves and their families, pictures of what they like to do and like to eat, andd pictures of where they live. The students are quickly becoming experts on how we are all different but all special in our own way!
