We have been learning about how plants and trees help the environment. We know that plants and trees give off oxygen that animals and people need to live. Plants also give us food like carrots and onions.
We planted some seeds in our classroom so that we can watch the plants grow! We planted carrot seeds, onion seeds and radish seeds!

Today in Grade One we talked about composting. Composting is when you add things to the soil like apple cores, banana peels and leaves. These things break down and make really good soil for plants to grow! We made compost collages!

Today in Grade One we did recycling art. We have been collecting all different kinds of recycling! We collected cardboard boxes, paper, bottle caps and popsicle sticks. We used these things to make portraits of our selves. We learned that we can reuse recyclable materials to make art!

We have been learning about reusing. We can reuse clothes, books and many other things too! We had a great idea to do a book trade in the class. This book trade would help us reuse old books! We brought in so many books that we were able to do two trades!

Today in Grade One we talked about reducing. One way to reduce is to save water! We learned that we can do things at home to save water. We also learned that not everyone has drinking water from a tap. Some people have to walk to get their water!

Today in Grade One we learned about recycling. We know that we can recycle paper. Paper can be newspaper, magazine and cardboard. You can also recycle plastic and aluminum. We had a recycling relay! Each team was recycling something different. It was a lot of fun!
