Dear Families,
Today in grade one we had lots of fun exploring maps and globes. We had so many questions that we want to know. If you know the answers to any of them please come to the room and tell us! If you are too far away write us a note! We are putting all our questions on the bulletin board and we will search for our answers. Mrs. Devlin added a few pictures of us! Here are our questions:
Why does the globe turn upside down?
Why are there islands?
Why is there red, yellow, green, blue, brown, purple, and orange?
Why is the earth a circle?
Why does the globe spin?
Why does the globe have all the countries on it and only some of the maps have all the countries on it?
Why do they have space in between all the lands?
Why are there lines that go up and down and across? What is the funny red dotted line that goes up and down?
Where does Santa live?
Why is it so bumpy?
Why is is so colourful?
Why are there stars?
Why do they have so much water?
How can there be so many places?
Why is it white on the top and the bottom?
Why does the land look like animal shapes?
What do the colours, numbers and words mean in the square box?
Please send us a message if you know the answers to our questions! We are going to start investigating first thing tomorrow!

We love playing with bouncy balls outside on the playground. One of our book buddies told us that we can make our bouncy ball bigger by putting it in water because it will grow. We are trying an experiment. We decided that we would put a bouncy ball in water and see if it will grow. We know that to make something grow it needs water, air, and food. To make a plant grow it needs soil and sunshine. People also need to have a beating heart, oxygen, shelter and love.
We measured our two bouncy balls and took pictures of them. Then we put them in water. There is lots of air in the room. We even added some of Kelso’s food so the balls had everything they need to grow. 15 children think the ball will grow. 1 child thinks the ball will not grow. Do you think it will grow? Why?
We will tell you tomorrow if we can grow a bouncy ball!

Here are some pictures of our experiment:
GUESS WHAT???
The bouncy ball did not grow. We watered it, we fed it and it had lots of air. Princess was the only one who said it wouldn’t grow. She explained her answer. She told us it won’t grow because it is just a ball. It has to be alive to grow. The bouncy ball is not alive and can not grow. We are going to write a letter to our book buddy in grade four and tell him what we learned. We also discovered that a lot of us new it would not grow but we didn’t speak up. We talked about how important it is to think about something and talk and share about we know.

Today there were three notes in your child’s backpack. The November news update came home with a request to send information and photos of your child to help with Our Class Story! On the right side of the screen you can read the news. Today you will also find the form to request your conference time. Please send this in no later than November 23 because teachers will be scheduling over the noon hour. The final note is for special lunch orders, which have a very short time to return to the school. All orders need to be in by Wednesday morning. The school will accept money until Friday, if you need additional time to pay. Sorry about the short notice, there was a mix up in the office.
Please leave a message or phone the school if you have any questions!
Thanks,
Mrs. Devlin
The grade one students have been learning all about Peace. This is the song the grade one class shared with the school at the assembly. We hope you enjoy!

Dear Families,
We have been very busy the past week at school, a few technical difficulties have made it difficult to leave messages! We sang Do you know where I find Peace at our Remembrance Day assembly and have thought about all the ways we can take care of each other and spread our message of peace to everyone. We are wrapping up and reflecting on our learning for the past month. We are beginning to think about where our next adventures will take us!
Don’t forget that we have a spelling test tomorrow!

Dear Families,
Today we went to MTYP to the The Jungle Book! It was lots of fun. The monkeys were really silly. We liked Baloo, he was funny. It was the first time some of us went to the theatre. It was really dark when the show started. It was neat how the actors ran up and down the ramps. We had lots of fun. Next week we will leave our favourite parts under the comments!

Dear Families,
Today some of our friends had picture re-takes. Don’t worry we remembered to smile! We read a really neat story called “The Alphabet Tree” by Leo Lionni. It was about letters who got together to make words and then the words got together to make sentences about Peace. We made our own word bugs with messages of Peace. Make sure to check them out in the hallway! We are also learning a new song about Peace. What a busy day! Check back for a picture soon!
