Call It Courage Jeopardy!

Grade 6, Uncategorized No Comments »

Today I stopped by the grade 6 classroom to drop off a message and was I surprised and excited by what I saw! The whole class was deeply engaged in a game of “Call It Courage Jeopardy”. In the role of Jeopardy host, was Mr. A, the grade 6 teacher. The class was divided into two teams – the Terminators and the Smarty Pants. The students had to answer progressively more difficult questions in 6 different categories. All of the answers to the questions could be found in the book. When I left the classroom the Smarty Pants were hurting after a big gamble on the Daily Double which cost them most of their points and the Terminators were sitting pretty with 1200 points.

All of the students were engaged in the activity, actively searching for the answers in the book, demonstrating comprehension and cooperating together in their teams. It was a great sight to see.

Nice idea for an interactive reading response, Mr. A!

On March 19 and 20th students from Dufferin School attended Fort Whyte Centre for the annual winter carnival. Students went tobogganing, played Inuit games, went snowshoeing, roasted marshmallows and did a scavenger hunt.

Everyone had a great time and really enjoyed the outdoors.

What signs of spring have you noticed?

St. Patrick’s Day

Celebrations, Grade 6 25 Comments »

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to everyone! Today students were involved in many different activities to celebrate the day. Students in E.C.L.C. were chasing a leprachaun around the school. That tricky leprechaun left them clues to follow. I wonder if they ever found his pot of gold?

Students in grade 6 were designing traps to catch leprechauns. I will keep you posted to let you know if they caught anything in them. We will put some pictures up after they are completed.

Plenty of people were dressed in green today. Can we name 50 things that are green? Comment on this post with your idea. Try not to repeat the same answer.

What Does Your Dog Know?

A group of students in grade 4 are reading a brochure titled “What Does Your Dog Know?”  This brochure tells you how to test your dog to find out how smart they really are.  They will be testing a friend’s dog to find out how much the dog knows.

They have made a podcast which tells you how to get ready to test your dog.  Please listen.  We will post our results after we complete the testing.
