Ancient mathematicians discovered that when you divide the circumference of ANY circle by the diameter, you get the exact same number every time.
What is this number?
What is it called?
What uses does this number have?
What is the symbol for it?
Hey all,
One important note about the potluck that I forgot to mention…
We have a severe dairy allergy in the class this year. If at all possible, please avoid bringing food with dairy products (salad dressings, anything with cheese, some condiments, etc). I know desserts are especially tough (my wife is allergic to dairy and gluten and has maybe half a dozen options if she craves something sweet). The following are acceptable treats:
ruffles – all dressed, plain
old dutch – ketcup, plain or pretzels
lays – barbeque, plain
cookies:
Oreos (Mr.Christie)
- golden, chocolate
Dads – oatmeal
fruit and veggies – no dip
Twizzlers -licorice, nibs
other candy:
- fuzzy peaches, swedish berries, sour patch kids
Thanks,
Dave
Dear Parents,
Hey everyone! Just wanted to update you with what’s going on here in the land of Flex, and invite you to our annual Flex potluck on Monday, December 20th at 6pm. Out potluck is an annual tradition that Tanis and I have been doing since we arrived at Churchill, and it’s grown every year. We always have one at Christmas and one in June. It’s nothing fancy; just food and conversation. Bring whatever you like. Main courses always go over well, of course, but we can always use salads, drinks, or dessert. Also, please bring the appropriate scoops/ladles/spoons. We always tend to be short on those. We also try to be as green as possible, so although we’ll provide paper plates and plastic cutlery, please bring your own plates, cups, and utensils if you can.
In other news, Egypt is coming along amazingly. We are quite blown away by the quality of the work we’ve already seen. This might actually be the best project we have yet done in Flex. Thank you all so much for the quantity of supplies we have received. It makes our job so much easier and allows us to actually facilitate the learning instead of spending all our energy trying to MacGyver together something from nothing.
There are lots of activities going on over the next couple of weeks. Most of this information can also be seen on the Churchill website, but these dates are especially important:
Tuesday, Dec. 7 (tomorrow) – Staff meeting (early dismissal at 2:25pm)
Wednesday, Dec. 15 – Christmas Concert
Monday, Dec. 20 – Egypt project completed
Tuesday, Dec. 21 – Middle Years Activity Afternoon (Gym clothes recommended)
Wednesday, Dec. 22 – Last day of classes for 2010.
That’s it for now. Please email us if you have any questions or comments. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you at the potluck!
Thanks,
Dave
