Math Homework, Grade 7

Page 11 and 12 of their Place Value booklets (the first two pages) are to be completed by next class. The majority of students managed to finish this assignment in the time provided today, but a few will need to complete these questions at home.
Thanks,
Dave

Meet the Teacher: Wednesday, September 22nd

Hey all! It’s Meet the Teacher Wednesday night. We would love to see each and every one of our students and parents. Tanis and I will have a slide show about what Flex is about, as well as outlines of what your child will be studying this year. It’ll be great to meet all our new Grade 7s’ parents as well as reconnect with the parent community from last year. There may be behavioural or academic issues we need to discuss with you so please come if you can. See you then!

First Day Reflections

Hello everyone from the Land of Flex!

It was so great getting to meet such a wonderful group of Grade 7 students today and it was so nice to reconnect with our returning Grade 8s (not to mention the throngs of former students from Grade 9-12 cycling in throughout the day). We had a whole lot of dry, organization-related things to go over today, and I hope our new students’ heads don’t melt from all the new information we threw at them! I really wanted to get outside too, but our timetable simply wouldn’t let us. At least we managed to get in a scavenger hunt/school tour that went quite well. Hopefully, the weather holds up and we’ll be going on lots of outings over the next few weeks.

Tanis and I will be sending home newsletters and forms almost every day over the next week or so. We’re considering an outing to the Forks early next week, so expect a permission form soon.

What an amazing first day! We are looking forward to the best year of Flex yet!

-Dave

P.S. We’ve been having some technical difficulties at the school because of software upgrades (Our poor computer technician! I’ve never seen him so stressed!!) so Tanis and I aren’t able to access email (or anything computer-related) from the school yet. Hopefully, the computers will be up and running by tomorrow or Friday, but if you need to get a hold of us during the day, please call the school at 474-1301.

First Day of School Sept 8th

Hey there,

First off, I hope you have all had a fantastic summer! We still have a week of it left, and I hope you enjoy every last moment of it… Dave and I were back in the school yesterday, but I’ll be out of town now until the 7th. It was great to see some of the students yesterday.

I wanted to send this out early, so as to avoid any difficulties on the first day back.

A few changes:

1) Bikes will NOT be allowed in the school or classroom this year. Nor will skateboards. The floors have just been finished, and we must respect the cusodians and the hard work that they do for us. Dave and I suggest a U-lock, or perhaps opting to walk to school.

2) Food and drink will not be permitted in the class during class time. The exception to this is water. We are flexible if students have not had the chance to eat due to extracurricular school activities, but there will be no “bagel runs” in the morning. The reason for this is that we have a student with severe allergies joining us this year.

3) Cell-phones and i-Pods are not to be in the classroom. We want a fresh start to the year, and both of these electronic items caused a constant distraction last year. We encourage these to be left at home. If you need to contact your child, the school will page him or her, or send the line through to our classroom. As we are fortunate to have a phone in our room your child can call you if the need be as well.

I have a feeling that this is going to be another great year in the program! As a heads-up, meet the teacher will be held on September 22nd. We are asking all flex parents to attend as we are planning to discuss areas of study this year, potential outings, and our flex-created behaviour expectations.

See you then!
