Human rights

Pros: The workers and designers are paid decent hourly wages and there is no slave labour involved in the manufacturing of Gibson guitars.

Cons: Looking through anonymous reviews of the company I found that quite a few are very unhappy with a company job in Nashville Tennessee where a CEO is described as a narcissist and just a bad person overall. This is just at one company though.

Environment

Pros: The company uses what is needed to make the guitars and do not have a high amount of waste. Some Gibson guitars are actually made of recycled wood.

Cons: N/A

Ultimately, our goal is not to promote certified-wood guitars as something special, but to bring our industry to a point where the use of certified wood is standard procedure.

”We utilize sustainable harvested wood as much as possible with all of our models.”

-Henry Juszkiewicz, Gibson chairman and CEO

Community Involvement

Pros: Gibson guitars have been used as first guitars by many new players as well as many great guitar players.

Cons: Going back to the company in Nashville though, the people were very unhappy with the working conditions there. But again this is only one company out of several around the country.

Animal Protection

Pros: Animals are not harmed in the making of guitars.

Friday March 13th, 2009

Hello my name is Chris. I’ll be your web master for the next little while. I’ll be posting regular updates about our flex community.

Homework: There’s not really that much homework for either grade 7 or 8′s this weekend. There is a math quiz on data analysis for the grade 8′s on Tuesday so they should study well.

The Grade 7′s are working on a project called “The Album To Our Life” that was due on march 2nd and is a week overdue now! (crazy, I’m glad I’m finished already!)

Winter Camp: Winter Camp was a great experience for everyone who came with us (best 3 days of the year…really.) for the people who couldn’t make it I feel very sorry for them and I wish everyone or more people can make it next year and have a wonderful time!

We are starting to rotate beetween Social Studies and Science again just like the begining of the year. Here are some things we will be studying…

-We started Optics in Science todays by watching a video.

-In Social Studies we are going to start “The Middle Ages” on Monday.

Thanks for Cooperation,

Chris

Winter Camp is almost here!!!

Dear Parents,

So camp is nearly upon us. We leave for Cedarwood Monday, March 9th (We arrive back from camp March 11th at approximately 3:00pm). We expect all students who are going to arrive at 8:30am. They will be meeting in Room 20 (Tanis Westdal’s room). Camp Cedarwood is located approx. 90 minutes from Winnipeg in the Whiteshell along the Winnipeg River. http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

We have a meeting today at lunch for all students attending. If your child has missed this meeting, we went over behavioural expectations (parents will be asked to drive out to the camp and bring students home who do not meet said expectations), the importance of outdoor gear (jackets, gloves, winter boots, headgear are all a must), and what they can and cannot bring (cell phones are not permitted, ipods and PSPs are okay). If a child wants to call from camp there is a payphone there he/she can use.

Final payment should be in by now. Any outstanding fees should be paid ASAP. Your child can bring some spending money to camp for the canteen.
