  • Amber:

A mineral is a naturally occurring substance that is abiotic.
The rock is called a pegmatite.
There is some mica in the rock sample (i.e. green flaky book like mineral).

  • JJ:

A mineral is a homogenous, naturally occurring inorganic substance.

The rock is called a pegmatite. A pegmatite is a coarse grained igneous rock containing large crystals.

I think the minerals are mica (book like minerals in flakes), tourmaline (black crystals), and feldspar (pink minerals).

  • B.D.:

I agree, a mineral is naturally occurring and is organic.

The rock is a pegmatite as it has coarse grained large crystals.

I think the “book like” minerals are some sort of mica. I agree that the black mineral might be tourmaline. I don’t know what the pink mineral could be.

  • JJ:

A mineral is non living, and has a definite crystal shape.
The rock has a least three minerals (e.g. green, black, and pink). I agree with some of the previous coments. The green mineral is some sort of mica. The black mineral could be tourmaline, and the pink mineral could be feldspar. I agree that the rock is a pegmatite.
